More information about the University of Liverpool is available at http://www.liv.ac.uk More information about stem cell research at the University of Liverpool is available at http://www.liv.ac.uk/ulscc The group at Liverpool has extensive expertise in embryonic stem cell (ESC) biology and for the last 8 years has been working on the role of extra-cellular matrix molecules in regulating the differentiation of ESCs. Currently, the participating scientists are interested in the signalling mechanisms that regulate ESC self-renewal, and are investigating the ability of specific oligosaccharides to direct the differentiation of neuronal cells from ESCs. The Liverpool group has extensive facilities and expertise in the full range of approaches used in cell biology, including histology, confocal microscopy, transgenic and molecular biological techniques such as in situ hybridization. There is particular expertise in performing RNA profiling experiments using Affymetrix GeneChip technologies and real-time PCR. We are also developing novel cell imaging and tracking techniques using magnetic nanoparticles and quantum dots. The following staff are involved:- Project Administrator: Louise Cooper
